APPELHULSEN, Germany, June 1, 2018–Sandro Boy that was ridden by Lyndal Oatley on Australian teams at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and the 2014 World Equestrian Games died unexpectedly Friday.

The Oldenburg gelding that Lyndal first competed at Big Tour in April 2012 was 17 years old and died at his home stable where Lyndal is based with her husband, Patrik Kittel.

Sandro Boy (Sandro Hit x Argentinus) and Lyndal was the highest placing combination on the Australian team at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. The pair also competed for Australia at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy and the 2016 World Cup Final.

Lyndal, who is pregnant, last competed Sandro Boy at international level at the Rio Olympics.
