Sabine Schut-Kery and Sanceo won the CDI-W Grand Prix Special in Del Mar, California Sunday, breaking a string of victories by Steffen Peters and Rosamunde since their return from a lengthy break from international competition.
Sabine of Thousand Oaks, California and the 12-year-old Hanoverian stallion scored 74.553 per cent in only their third Grand Prix Special since starting Big Tour this year. The result was slightly lower than their previous best of 74.702 per cent posted in their first Special in February.
Steffen, of San Diego, who had logged five straight victories with Rosamunde since the 11-year-old Rhinelander mare returned to international competition in February following the break after this same show in 2017, were awarded 72.830 per cent.
Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada and Kastel’s Nintendo were third on 70.255 per cent.
This World Cup event was the last competition before the U.S. federation announces a group of about eight horses and riders to be sent to Europe to view for selection of a team of four combinations for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September.
Both Sabine on Sanceo and Steffen on Rosamunde and Suppenkasper will be among the group.
Others will be Laura Graves of Geneva, Florida and Verdades, the highest ranked American pair; Adrienne Lyle of Ketchum, Idaho and Salvino and Horizon, Kasey Perry-Glass of Wellington, Florida and Dublet, Olivia LaGoy-Weltz of Haymarket, Virginia on Lonoir and Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida who stayed in Europe after the Wold Cup Final in Paris earlier this month to compete both Danilo and Doktor.
The highlight events of the European tour will be the CDIO5* Nations Cup events at Rotterdam in June and at Aachen, Germany in July.
