WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 12, 2018–D Niro, now 19 years old, will make his last Global Dressage Festival freestyle competition appearance with Canada’s Jacqueline Brooks in the saddle Friday night in the eighth year of showing in Florida.

The gray Swedish Warmblood gelding has been a star since the founding of the Global winter circuit in Wellington in the winter of 2012, with memorable and emotional performances centered on “Hallelujah,” written by Canadian Leonard Cohen.

Of the 164 international Big Tour competitions for the pair as of this Friday, the last start for the duo will be the 99th in Florida.

Along the way, Jacqueline and D Niro went to the 2012 Olympics for Canada and the 2013 World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden where the horse reunited with the breeder.

Jacqueline emphasized D Niro is not retiring as she plans to compete him in Canada in the summer, but the horse will not be competed by Jacqueline in Wellington in 2019.
