LONDON, Dec. 13, 2017–Patrik Kittel and Delaunay OLD captured the Olympia World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Wednesday, narrowly beating Emile Faurie and Delatio in only the second Big Tour event for the British pair.
The Swedish European Championship team bronze medal partnership of Patrik and the 11-year-old Oldenburg mare scored 80.635 per cent for the victory and returned the pair to the top of the Western European League standings in their campaign to earn a start at the final in Paris in April.
“The sport was really good and the standard was amazing tonight so I am just really happy to secure this win,” said Patrik, a three-time Olympian for Sweden but based in Germany. He is ranked No. 13 in the world on Delaunay, one spot behind Deja, his 2016 Olympic mount.
“I just loved how easy Dude found this test which has a high degree of difficulty–he just felt like he was cruising.”
Emile and the 13-year-old Hanoverian stallion competing together for only the second Big Tour show and their first musical performance posted a score of 80.405 per cent. Emile, a two-time Olympian, took over the ride on Delatio this summer after the horse had been ridden by Bianca Kasselmann, the wife of Ullrich Kasselmann. Emile became the Kasselmann stable rider earlier this year.
“I just feel so lucky that after so many years without a really top horse,” Emile said, “I now have a whole string.
“Delatio does not have a lot of competitive experience but he is an awesome horse, such a trier and his ability to concentrate incredible.”
The Netherlands’ Edward Gal and Glock’s Zonik that won the Grand Prix Tuesday placed third on 79.340 per cent. Edward and the nine-year-old Danish Warmblood stallion were in their third show since starting Big Tour in June.
The sixth leg of the nine-event Western Europe World Cup circuit is scheduled for Amsterdam next month.
