BONEO, Australia, Oct. 21, 2017–Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday for the third victory in seven starts since returning from European competitions last summer.
Brett and the 15-year-old Australian-bred gelding that have been partnered for the past five years of big and small tour scored 74.540 per cent for the win.
New Zealand’s 2016 Olympic duo of Julie Brougham and Vom Feinsten placed second on 73.000 per cent.
Judy Dierks on Diamond Star, winner of the Grand Prix Friday, placed third on 71.610 per cent. Shannan Goodwin and Aristede were fourth on 71.575 per cent.
British Olympic team medalist Spencer Wilton rode Umbro, borrowed from Aussie Mary Hanna just last Tuesday, to a score of 71.425 per cent for fifth place.
Australia and New Zealand as part of the World Cup Pacific Asia League is the only geographic group to hold a league final to decide the sole representative from Down Under to go to Paris for the final next April.
Brett who competed for Australia at the 2010 Lexington World Equestrian Games, and Judy on Diamond Star both earned better than 69 per cent in Friday’s Grand Prix to be added to the list of combinations with at least one result to count toward qualifying for the Australian team to go to the WEG at Tryon, North Carolina next September.
