DONAUESCHINGEN, Germany, Sept. 17, 2017–Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, competing at her first show a month after giving birth to her first child, rode Unee BB to victory in the CDI4* Grand Prix Special Sunday, ending the streak of wins by Isabell Werth and Don Johnson FRH at 16.
Jessica and the 16-year-old KWPN stallion scored 77.157 per cent for the win after placing second behind German team matesIsabell on Don Johnson in the Grand Prix Saturday.
The 31-year-old Jessica and Unee BB competed on the German bronze medal team at the 2015 European Championships and also won bronze at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas the same year. The pair also rode in the 2014 and 2016 World Cup Finals.
Jessica had not competed Unee BB since February and did not show at all after March while preparing for the birth.
Isabell and the 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding Don Johnson were awarded 72.510 per cent for second place in the Special that ended the run of victories by the pair ranked No. 6 in the world at 16.
The streak by Isabell and Don Johnson, on German teams at the 2013 and 2015 European Championships, was the second longest of top combinations in the past decade for which records are available, behind only Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro that posted 22 straight victories in two years from April 2012 to April 2014.
The previous longest winning streak for Isabell was on Satchmo, her 2008 Olympic team gold medal mount, that logged 11 straight victories bracketed by the World Equestrian Games in 2006 and the European Championships in 2007, according to records.
Germany’s Alexandra Stadelmayer on Lord Lichtenstein placed third on 70.843 per cent.
Lisa-Maria Klössinger and FBW Daktari, the German duo that won team and individual gold medals at the European Under-25 Championships two weeks ago, were fourth on 69.706 per cent in only their second Big Tour event.
Lisa-Maria and Daktari, a 12-year-old German Sport Horse gelding, have competed at international levels since 2012 and in addition to their success at the Under-25 championships won team gold and individual and freestyle silver at the 2015 European Young Rider championships.
