TRYON, North Carolina, Sept. 16, 2017–Molly Paris on Countess gave the local crowd a victory to cheer when the pair won the inaugural World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Molly of nearby Charlotte rode the 15-year-old Danish Warmblood mare to a score of 68.375 per cent for the first victory at Big Tour for the pair that competed in the Under-25 division in 2016 through April of this year when they posted a triple win during the spring CDI here.
Molly and Countess placed second in the Grand Prix Friday in the first dressage World Cup event staged at the venue that will host the 2018 World Equestrian Games a year from now.
Elisabeth Austin of Willison, Vermont on the 15-year-old Irish Draught Steeped in Luck was second on 67.350 per cent with Debbie Hill of Huntsville, Alabama on Zarcita third on 66.525 per cent.
Jessica Jo Tate of Wellington, Florida on Summersby won the CDI3* Int. 1 on a score of 68.375 per cent.
Australia’s Kelly Layne, based in Wellington, was second on Furst Amante on 65.763 per cent, the first CDI for the 11-year-old Rhinelander gelding.
