SYDNEY, Sept. 1, 2017–Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser won the World Cup Grand Prix Friday in only the second show for the pair this year with the top three places less than 0.4 per centage points apart.
Brett and the 15-year-old Australian-bred gelding scored 68.60 per cent for the win although the pair were placed second by three of the five judges and third by the other two.
Judy Dierks on Diamond Star were awarded 68.74 per cent for second, being placed first by three judges but 11th by Peter Holler of Germany whose score of 63.30 per cent was 8.5 percentage points below that of Trond Asmyr of Norway who gave the duo 71.80 per cent.
Deon Stokes on Royal Oak II was third on 68.42 per cent.
Sixteen combinations started the Grand Prix in the largest Big Tour since the Australian federation announced a major switch in selection for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina making it easier for Aussie-based riders to qualify at home instead of requiring competition in Europe.
