GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Aug. 24, 2017–Juan Matute, Jr,, the Florida-based teen star for Spain, on Quantico Ymas won the inaugural Lövsta Future Challenge International Under-25 Grand Prix, an invitational even being staged alongside the European Championships of dressage and jumping.

The victory by Juan and the 11-year-old gelding was on a personal best U25 Grand Prix score of 71.674 per cent and the only pair among the 11 combinations from five nations to top 70 per cent. Sweden took second and third places–Lina Dolk on Biggles on 69.395 per cent and Isabella Tovek on Weltliebe on 69.256 per cent.

The freestyle is scheduled for Saturday in the Ullevi stadium which has been configured to seat 27,000 spectators for dressage and jumping.

Quantico Ymas that Juan’s family bought as a two-year-old was “very confident and relaxed” in the impressive huge stadium.

“It’s not only the arena,” he said, “it’s also the environment where we’re riding among the very best in Europe with the European Championships of dressage and jumping being hosted here, which is fantastic. As a U25 rider it’s very exciting to see not only the top riders of my discipline but also of jumping.”

Juan and Quantico have enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic since the duo’s first international, a Young Rider event at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida in the winter of 2014.

Immediately following this event, Juan heads to Lamprechtshausen, Austria for the second year of the European Under-25 Championships.
