ERMELO, Netherlands, Aug. 3, 2017–Quel Filou, an Oldenburg gelding ridden by Spain’s Severo Jurado Lopez, topped the World Young Horse Championships six-year-old preliminary test part one Thursday, with the other half of the starting lineup of 43 horses to go Friday.
Severo and the gelding (Quarterback x Stedinger) were awarded 8.98 points to put the pair slightly ahead of Red Diamant, a Danish Warmblood mare (Romanov x Dream of Heidelberg) ridden by Denmark’s Carina Cassøe Krüth on 8.88 points and Nymphenburg’s First Ampere, a Hanoverian stallion (Ampere x Weltruhm) ridden by Tessa Frank of Germany third on 8.86.
