TATTENHALL, England, June 14, 2017–Carl Hester and Barolo captured the inaugural CDI3* Grand Prix at Bolesworth Castle Wednesday in the pair’s second Big Tour show.
Carl and the 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding (Breitling W x Hitchcock) scored 74.240 per cent to keep intact an unbeaten record of three straight wins for the British Olympic gold medal rider and Barolo that had their initial CDI outing at Windsor in May. Charlotte Dujardin competed Barolo at Grand Prix in Spain and England in early 2016.
Gareth Hughes and Don Carissimo, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding, posted a personal best 72.920 per cent for second place, three weeks after competing on Great Britain’s gold medal team at the CDIO5* Nations Cup in Compiègne, France.
The previous best score for Gareth, a British team rider at World Games and European Championships, and Don Carissimo was 71.100 per cent in the Netherlands last December.
Gillian Davison on Alfranco also posted a personal best of 70.380 per cent for third place and completing a British sweep of the top placings. The score was the first above 70 per cent at Grand Prix for Gillian and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding that began their CDI career in January, 2016.
