UGGERHALNE, Denmark, June 4, 2017–Denmark, led by a duo of Olympic combinations, took charge of the CDIO4* Nations Cup in the opening leg of the Grand Prix Sunday with Finland lying second, Netherlands third and the United States fourth.
Looking to repeat as Nations Cup victors at home following a win in 2016, the standings after the Grand Prix were 1. Denmark 219.440; 2. Finland 206.260, 3. Netherlands 205.380 and 4. USA 204.140.
The double Olympic partnership for Denmark of Anna Kasprzak and Donnperignon was the top scoring individual on 74.720 per cent in the Grand Prix of the third leg of the trans-Atlantic event that is in its second year as an official series.
Agnete Kirk Thinggaard and Jojo AZ, team mates at the 2016 Games in Rio, were second on 72.660 per cent with Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Blue Hors Zack third on 72.060 per cent that gave Denmark the commanding lead as the top three scores from each team count.
Henri Ruoste on Dixiland, the last pair to ride for Finland, scored 71.460 per cent to boost his nation to second place. Katja Gevers on Thriller accomplished a similar feat with a score of 70.360 per cent as the last pair for the Netherlands that moved the Dutch into third so far.
The highest scoring American was Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida on Danilo with 69.600 per cent for sixth place individually.
The United States won the title in the first year of the series. The U.S. placed second in the opening leg of the series at Wellington, Florida this year but did not earn any points as not enough teams competed, and placed fifth in the opening European leg at Compiègne, France three weeks ago. The Americans in both European competitions so far have been privately or self-funded.
Under the Nations Cup format, the top three scores from each team in the Grand Prix, the top two from the Grand Prix Special and the single best result from the Grand Prix Freestyle will count to determine the winner at Uggerhalne.
