GLADSTONE, New Jersey, May 18, 2017-The Olympic team bronze medal partnership of Kasey Perry Glass and Dublet won the Festival of Champions Grand Prix Thursday, the opening leg of the Tim Dutta USA Grand Prix Championship.
Kasey and the 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding that competed in their first World Cup Final in Omaha seven weeks ago, scored 73.700 per cent in the first Grand Prix championship for the pair.
Adrienne Lyle on Salvino, that were able to compete here after a last-minute reprieve for Adrienne from an International Equestrian Federation (FEI) suspension for contaminated feed, placed second on 70.600 per cent while Olivia LaGoy-Weltz on Lonoir were third on 70.400 per cent. All three riders are coached by Debbie McDonald.
Ashley Holzer, a four-time Olympian for Canada, made her first appearance at the championships since making the decision earlier this year to ride for the United States. The pair were awarded 66.100 per cent for seventh place.
The highest averages of scores in the Grand Prix, the Special and the Freestyle will determine the eventual winner of the championships that were restored this year as a national competition after a break in 2016. The riders expressed appreciate for returning to Gladstone, an historic venue an hour from New York City.
Kasey said that the experience of the atmosphere at the World Cup and fine-tuning were helping to get higher scores.
Kasey, Adrienne and Olivia had all helped each other in the past couple of weeks as Debbie had been in Australia giving a series of clinics and a master class.
