NEÜMUNSTER, Germany, Feb. 18, 2017–Isabell Werth and Don Johnson FRH won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday as the German Olympic rider sought to repare backup mounts for the Omaha Final next month.
Isabell and the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 75.780 per cent in the first competition for the horse in three months and the fourth straight win for the pair.
The rising Dutch combination of Madeleine Witte-Vrees on Cennin was second on 74.100 per cent and Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg on Damsey was third on 73.200 per cent.
The Freestyle to decide points counting for qualification for the Final in Omaha Mar. 27-April 2 is scheduled for Sunday.
Isabell has clinched a start in Omaha with three World Cup victories on her Olympic team gold medal mount Weihegold OLD to lead the standings for the Western European League that will send nine of the 18 combinations for the final of the only annual world championship.
Two others will from Central Europe, two from North America, one from the Pacific/Asia, the defending champion who is Hans Peter Minderhoud of the Netherlands and the others extra starting places.
