MAASTRICHT, Netherlands, Nov. 11, 2016–Diederik van Silfhout and Arlando won the Indoor Maastricht CDI3* Grand Prix Friday in the first victory this year and only the second in three years at Big Tour for the Dutch Olympic partnership.
Diederik and the 11-year-old KWPN stallion scored 75.840 per cent to squeeze past World Cup championship pair of Hans Peter Minderhoud and Glock’s Flirt and German Olympic team rider Isabell Werth on Don Johnson FRH.
Hans Peter and the 15-year-old Swiss Sport Horse gelding scored 75.540 per cent with Isabell Werth riding Don Johnson FRH in competition for the first time in a year to score 75.520 per cent.
Hans Peter has been riding Flirt for the past 2 1/2 years and became Word Cup champion for the first time in March this year after being the reserve at Las Vegas in 20`4.
An injury to Don Johnson, kept the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding from contending for a place on Germany’s Olympic team but Isabell rode Weihegold OLD in Rio de Janeiro to win team gold and individual silver to bring her Olympic medal rally to 10, the most of any equestrian.
