FRITZENS, Austria, July 1, 2016–Isabell Werth rode Emilio to victory in the Schindlhof CDI4* Grand Prix Friday, posting a personal best score of almost 79 per cent on the horse that will likely be her backup to Weihegold OLD for the Olympic Games. Karen Pavicic on Don Daiquiri fell short of the score needed to earn an individual start for Canada but gets one last shot in the Grand Prix Special Sunday.
Isabell and the 10 year-old Westfalen gelding score 78.960 per cent, exceeding their previous best of 76.460 per cent recorded in May. Since starting Big Tour in September last year, Isabell and Emilio have posted six wins in nine starts.
Fellow German Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Zaire was second on 75.540 per cent.
Ireland’s Judy Reynolds on Vancouver K was third on 71.500 per cent as she prepares for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next month.
“I’m just really lucky to have two horses like this,” Isabell said referring to Weihegold OLD that she will ride on the German Nations Cup team at the Aachen, Germany CDIO5* in two weeks while competing Emilio in the CDI4* Grand Prix.
“I don’t want to make the decision… first, second… now because they will decide for themselves in the arena. I will try my best with both of them. I am o lucky to have two great horses–a very pretty and elegant mare and a super athlete so it is really good.”
For Karen Pavicic who brought Don Daiquiri from Vancouver in British Columbia to make a last-ditch attempt to claim the second of the two spots available to Canada at the Olympics–Belinda Trussell on Anton has the first spot.
However, the pair scored 69.240 per cent but needed 69.950 per cent to overtake Megan Lane on Caravella.
Katrina Wüst of Germany awarded the highest score, 71.400 per cent with three other judges 68.600 per cent to 70.300 per cent but Maribel Alonso de Quinzanos marked the pair at 66.900 per cent.
