GLADSTONE, New Jersey, June 21, 2016–Murray S. Kessler was elected United States Equestrian Federation President on Tuesday, tapping into his experience as a lifelong horse sport participant and successful businessman. He will take over the position next January.
Murray, 57 years old, is also the father of Reed Kessler, who rode on the United States jumping teams as a teenager at the 2012 Olympics.
He set as his goal “to increase access to and encourage participation in equestrian sports at all levels. The recognition that every member, every affiliate, and every discipline is important and serves a purpose to the overall success of the federation will be fundamental to my tenure.”
Bill Moroney, acting CEO of the USEF, foresaw Murray as holding the promise to change the federation “into a consumer oriented organization with quality products and superior customer service that appeals to a diverse group of horse sport enthusiasts.”
Murray has served on the boards of the North American Riders Group, the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation, and the USEF where he chairs the governance committee, leads the strategic planning process is on the mileage rule revision task force.
He is a director on the board of Reynolds-American, Inc. and was instrumental as president and CEO in the sale of the Lorillard Tobacco Company to Reynolds-American.
