BROHOLM, Denmark, June 17, 2016–Cathrine Dufour, just eight months out of the Under-25 division, rode Atterupgaards Cassidy to victory in the Danish Championships Grand Prix Friday, a major step to being selected to the nation’s team for the Olympic Games in seven weeks.
Cathrine and the 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding that have been partnered at international level since the rider’s European Championship junior year in 2016 was awarded 76.800 per cent by the all-Danish ground jury.
Anna Kasprzak on Donnperignon, the top Danish combination for most of the past four years when the pair was the highest placed from her nation at the 2012 Olympic Games, was second just 0.06 per cent back on 76.740 per cent.
Agnete Kirk Thinggard on Jojo AZ placed thid on 74.520 per cent, Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Blue Hors Hotline fourth on 72.100 per cent and the Wellington, Florida-based Mikala Gundersen on My Lady fifth on 70.920 per cent.
Lars Petersen, the Danish Olympic rider also based in Florida, decided not compete Mariett in the championships because of the stress on the 18-year-old mare of travel to Europe, competitions then, if successful in making the four-member team, going to Rio de Janeiro before going home to Florida.
