COMPIÈGNE, France, May 21, 2016–Florida high schooler Juan Matute, Jr. continued his domination of the youth divisions for a second day when he rode Dhannie Ymas to victory in the CDI Young Rider Individual test Saturday.
The 18-year-old who competes for Spain like his father, Juan Matute in three Olympics, scored 73.596 per cent on Dhannie for the win in the individual test a day after taking the Young Rider team test and on Quatico Ymas capturing the Under-25 Intermdiate II.
The Netherlands Jasmien de Koeyer on Esperanza was second on 72.105 per cent and Russia’s Aleksandra Maksakova on Scampalo third on 71.930 per cent.
Juan based in Wellington with his family is ranked No. 3 Young Rider in the world on the nine-year-old Hanoverian gelding. The pair won European Junior Championship Freestyle gold in 2015.
Juan and Dhannie have won 14 of their 17 starts so far this year–all on Wellington’s Adequan Global Dressage Festival circuit before this show.
In addition to Quantico in the Under-25 division, he is also competing Don Diego Ymas as an individual in the CDIO5* Nations Cup in his campaign to seek a place on Spain’s team at the summer Oympics.
Lauren Asher of San Diego, California on De Noir was the top finishing of a trio of American Young Riders, competing in their first competition in Europe. The pair placed 18th on 66.228 per cent.
Barbara “Bebe” Davis also of Wellington on Feivel Mousekewitz was 24th on 63.816 per cent and Kerrigan Gluch also based in Wellington on Vaquero HGF was 31st on 60.263 per cent.
