NIEUW EN SINT JOOSLAND, Netherlands, April 7, 2016–Kristy Oatley posted personal best scores on two horses the three-time Olympian for Australia competed in the Zeeland Outdoor CDI3* that was the kick off for several top combinations seeking a start at the Rio de Janeiro Games in August.
The Germany-based Kristy on Ronan, a 16-year-old Oldenburg stallion, scored 70.300 per cent that eclipsed the pair’s previous best of 70.080 set at Deauville, France last July.
On Swagman, a 12-year-old Oldenburg stallion that Kristy began Big Tour competition last spring, the pair also logged a personal best of 69.220 per cent for 11th place in the lineup of 38 starting combinations.
This was only the second competition this year for both horses.
But Kristy showed her third Grand Prix mount Du Soleil. a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding, on the winter circuit, scoring 71.320 per cent in the World Cup Grand Prix at Neumünster in February.
On Thursday, both horses had mistakes in the zigzag that she attributed to the rider.
“Three horses with great marks,” Kristy said . “So very excited.”
Kristy competed Ronan for Australia at the World Games in Normandy in 2014, one of three world championships she has ridden in as well as the 2000, 2008 and 2012 Olympics and two World Cup Finals.
About eight Australian combinations based at home as well as in Europe and possibly the United States will be named next week to a long list to compete at the CDIO5* Nations Cups in Odense, Denmark May 12-16 and Rotterdam June 23-26 for the four places on the team for Rio de Janeiro.
