Canadian riders seeking to be selected for two individual places awarded for a start at the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are weighing whether to remain in North America or go to Europe as options shrink with the Adequan Global Dressage Festival winding down in Wellington, Florida.

Rankings leader Belinda Trussell on Anton has been named to Canada’s team at the CDIO3* Nations Cup at next week’s final event of the circuit  along with Karen Pavicic on Don Daiquiri, Megan Lane on Caravella and Jacqueline Brooks on D’Niro and Brittany Fraser on All In as reserve. Chris von Martels on Divertimento is entered to compete in the CDI3 Grand Prix in Wellington.

After Global, only nine CDIs rated 3* or above remain in North America, as widely separated as 3,000 miles/4,830km from Del Mar, California to Ottawa, Ontario before the qualifying deadline on July 4. Three competitions remain in South California, one on the East Coast and another in the Midwest of the United States, one in eastern Canada and two in Canada’s west.

Only small changes occurred in the rankings after the CDI4* and CDI3* competitions in Wellington last week.

The average of the four highest Grand Prix level scores—a minimum of two Grand Prix scores and the other two can be Grand Prix or Grand Prix Special—can be included from the beginning of 2016 to 9 a.m. July 4. According to the selection criteria, each submitted score must be 68% or better.

Unofficial standings of Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special results as compiled by dressage-news.com for combinations with scores of at least 68%.
