LIER, Belgium, Mar. 6, 2016–Inna Logutenkova on Don Gregorius in the last show to have a chance of Ukraine earning an individual start at the summer Oympics won the CDI3* Grand Prix to qualify for the Freestyle but with a score that may not be high enough.
Inna and the 14-year-old Oldenburg stallion scored 71.340 per cent for the win but with eight competitions in the final week of Olympic qualifying it is uncertain whether it will rank high enough to earn a start.
Briana Burgess, an Australian based in Germany, placed second on La Scala with 68.320 per cent. The Rhinelander gelding 18 years old has been competed by Briana at Big Tour for more than two years and is looking to be included in the Australian Olympic selection trials to be staged in Europe.
Joao Victor Marcari Oliva on Xama dos Pinhais campaigning for a place in Brazil’s team at the Rio de Janeiro Games placed third on 67.380 per cent in their second CDI Grand Prix.
The pair were the highest placed for Brazil at last summer’s Pan American Games at Small Tour and moved up to international Grand Prix three months ago. As the Olympic host nation Brazil received a team place and riders and horses are now campaigning to fulfill the minimum score requirement of two Grand Prix results of 64 per cent and to win one of the four places on the team.
Luiza Tavares de Almeida on Vendaval scored 66.080 per cent for ninth place that gave the Brazilian duo the second of the two required minimum results.
Luiza, the youngest Olympian in dressage at the 2008 Beijing Games, is in Europe with her twin brothers and to be joined by her older sister, Thaisa, in seeking to qualify for the Brazil team. She also rode in the London Olympics in 2012.
