WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 15, 2016–Germany’s Michael Klimke and Djamba Djokiba won the Adequan Global Dressage Festival Prix St. Georges Friday for the first CDI victory for the pair after downpours and high winds that spawned a nearby tornado washed out most competitions at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
The score of 72.632 per cent was a personal best for Michael and the nine-year-old Westfalen gelding in their second winter in Florida.
Heather Blitz of the United States on Ripline, the 2015 U.S. reserve champion Developing Prix St. Georges horse, placed second on 71.842 per cent.
The Netherlands’ Leida Collins-Strijk on Don Tignanello was third on 71.140 per cent.
Michael Klimke and Royal Dancer placed fourth on 70.044 per cent while Great Britain’s Suzan Pape on Harmoney’s Don Noblesse was fifth on 69.474 per cent. The pair were finalists in the 2015 Nürnberger Burg-Pokal, the German championships for Prix St. Georges horses seven to nine years old.
The storm that swept through Palm Beach and was marked by a tornado touching down close to a nearby lion sanctuary caused cancelation of the first Friday night Freestyle under the lights of the 2016 winter circuit.
The World Cup Freestyle was re-scheduled for Saturday night.
