LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Dec. 21, 2015–Laura Graves and Verdades are nominated for both United States Equestrian of the Year and Horse of the Year in voting that is open online through Jan. 4, 2016.
Laura, 28 years old, of Plymouth, Florida and her Verdades claimed their first United States Grand Prix Championship this year.
She and Verdades were on the U.S. gold medal team at the Pan American Games in Toronto in July and also won individual silver. The team secured a start for the United States at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next summer.
The pair also competed at the World Cup Final for the first time when it was held in Las Vegas last April.
Laura is one of nine riders on the ballot for Equestrian of the Year.
Verdades is a 13-year-old KWPN gelding that Laura Graves has raised from a foal to become No. 15 in the world rankings.
Verdades (Florett AS x Goya) began his international Grand Prix career in Florida in February, 2014 and six months later was on the American team at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France. The pair were fifth and the highest placed U.S. combination in the Grand Prix Freestyle.
Verdades started in 12 international Grand Prix competitions in 2015–not counting the U.S. Grand Prix Championships that are a national competition but this year were run under FEI rules.
Verdades placed first seven times, second three times, fourth once and fifth once.
He is one of six horses nominated for Horse of the Year.
