MADRID, Nov. 21, 2015–Juan Matute, Jr., the 18-year-old Florida-based dressage rider, received the award for Spain’s best equestrian athlete for 2015.

The award was presented by the Infanta Elena de Borbon at Madrid’s Royal Theater Friday night.

Juan on Dhannie Ymas won the European Championship Junior Freestyle gold medal at Vidauban, France in July.

The son of three-time Spanish Olympian, Juan Matute, he competed five different horses owned by his family from Junior levels to senior Grand Prix on both sides of the Atlantic in 2015.

The family moved to Wellington, Florida seven years ago.
