LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Nov. 2, 2015–Double victories in their first ever World Cup event elevated Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and Delgado to No. 7 in the world for the Spanish combination in the latest International Equestrian Federation (FEI) rankings released Monday.
Beatriz and the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding, her European Championship bronze model partner, moved to the seventh spot from 13th as of the end of October after adding victories in the World Cup event in Lyon, France last weekend.
Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro remain in the third year at No. 1 with Germany’s Kristina Bröring-Sprehe on Desperados FRH again No. 2 and Netherlands’ Edward Gal on Glock’s Undercover at No. 3, unchanged from September.
The ranking for the popular Spanish rider who is enjoying a resurgence in her career at the age of 49 was the biggest change in the top 25 in the world and comes after years of overcoming recurring health issues with the horse she has ridden for the past eight years.
Beatriz’s top championship performance before the Europeans in Aachen, Germany in August that led Spain to qualify a team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year was capturing individual bronze at the World Games in her homeland in 1992.
Another major move up in the rankings was by Sweden’s Patrik Kittel on Delaunay to the No. 35 from the 202nd slot the previous month.
The Swedish Olympic rider who is also ranked No. 10 with Deja and No. 21 with Watermill Scandic won the World Cup event in Hungary last month on Delaunay, a nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by the family of his Australian wife, Lyndal Oatley.
