DEVON, Pennsylvania, Oct. 4, 2015–Mikala Gundersen and My Lady won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday for the fourth straight victory for the Danish team combination that put them atop the North American League standings.

Mikala, based in Wellington, Florida and the 15-year-old Danish Warmblood mare scored 77.975 per cent in their second World Cup qualifying event, having posted a personal best of 79.900 per cent last month in their first World Cup Freestyle of the 2015/16 season. The pair competed at the 2014 and 2015 World Cup Finals as well as being on the Danish teams at the 2014 World Games and European Championships in August.

America’s Lisa Wilcox competing Galant in only their second international Big Tour event placed second on 73.950 per cent.

Canada’s Belinda Trussell and her Pan American Games partner Anton were third on 73.700 per cent with her Pan Am team mates, Brittany Fraser and All In fourth on 73.200 per cent in only their second international Grand Prix Freestyle.

This World Cup qualifier was the seventh of 12 in the North American League made up shows in Canada and the United States with two more scheduled for Burbank, California and three in Wellington over the winter leading to the final at Gothenburg, Sweden in March.

The highest score in the NAL was 81.325 per cent from Steffen Peters and Legolas in California last month.

Two combinations are invited from the NAL but those invitations are restricted to citizens of the league. Combinations such as Mikala and My Lady who competed for Denmark can be invited as an “extra” place.

Some riders in North America have placed the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next summer as their highest priority that could cause them to pass up an invitation to Sweden.

The top pairs with the required two scores in the NAL standings as of Oct. 4:

1. Mikala Gundersen/My Lady DEN – 79.900% + 77.975% = 78.937%
2. Lisa Wilcox/Galant USA – 73.950% + 74.700% = 74.325%
3. Brittany Fraser/All In CAN – 73.650% + 73.200% = 73.425%
4. Jacqueline Brooks/D Niro CAN – 73.175% + 72.875% = 73.025%
5. Günter Seidel/Zero Gravity USA – 67.552% + 77.600% = 72.576%
