PERL-BORG, Germany, Sept. 12, 2015–Isabell Werth and Don Johnson FRH won the Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday holding back a strong challenge from Sönke Rothenberger on Cosmo for the five-time Olympian’s third straight Big Tour victory at the Peterhof Dressur Gala CD4*.
Isabell and the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding that she rode for Germany at the European Championships last month scored 81.750 per cent for the win. She took the Grand Prix on Don Johnson on Thursday and followed up with the win on her newest Big Tour mount, Emilio, on Friday. This was also the sixth victory in 18 starts for the pair so far this year.
Sönke and the eight-year-old Cosmo making their Big Tour debut at this show scored 78.850 per cent to repeat as runnerup to Isabell which the pair were by 0.1 percentage points in the Grand Prix.
Sönke, who turn 21 years of age next month, has been competing Cosmo internationally since Young Riders in February, 2014. The pair was showing in the Under-25 division less than three months ago, a competition where the rider was also competing in international jumping.
Swedish Olympian Patrik Kittel on Delaunay, the Australian-owned nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding, was awarded 76.550 per cent for third place, as they finished in the Grand Prix.
