Shiwon Green has become the first New Zealander to be selected for the World Young Horse Championships where she will compete her five-year-old F 1 in Verden, Germany next month.
Shiwon, based in Gloucestershire, England, bought the Oldenburg gelding (Floriscount x Roadster) from his breeder, Patricia von Merveldt, as a freshly broken three-year-old.
‘It truly is a great honor to be the first New Zealander to ride at this elite event,” Shiwon said. “I am looking forward to showing off my fabulous horse in this, the ultimate show for young horses internationally. To be creating history once again with the first horse I have campaigned in Europe is awesome’.
Shiwon and F 1 as a four-year-old made their debut in Britain to win with 83.9 per cent that qualified the pair for the finals of the Badminton Young Dressage Horse of the Future series and topped the season with 88 per cent.
Siwon broke her shoulder that delayed the launch of their five-year-old season but placed second in the Shearwater International Young Horse class to qualify for the finals to be held in conjunction with the Hickstead CDI at the end of July. Shiwon just started training with Olympic and world champion Charlotte Dujardin to prepare for Verden and beyond.
Shiwon, 43, has been based in Britain since 2013.
