AACHEN, Germany, May 31, 2015–Tinne Vilhelmsson-Silfvén had “one of the best” rides ever on Don Aurillo to capture the CDI5* Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday while home nation favorite Isabell Werth on Don Johnson was happy riding to music borrowed from now retired Warum Nicht to come in second to end her latest string of victories at five.
The Swedish Olympic, World Games and European Championship combination scored 82.475 per cent in only their second show of the year as Tinne did not compete the 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding during their annual Florida winter circuit.
Isabell rode Don Johnson to the Pomp and Circumstance music on which she performed Warum Nicht to the World Cup title in Las Vegas in 2007 to score 81.200 per cent.
Sönke Rothenberger, the 20-year-old German who now rides dressage in addition to jumping and going to college to get an international business degree, rode Favourit to third place with 77.375 per cent. He took over the ride on the 16-year-old Rhinelander gelding from his sister last September and before that Tinne competed Favourit for Sweden at the 2010 World Games in Kentucky and the 2009 and 2011 European Championships.\
Steffen Peters of San Diego, California on Legolas was disappointed in their seventh place in the last competition before the Pan American Games in mid-July where the United States will be counting on the team to win gold and thus earn a starting place at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Mistakes in tempi changes that came after Saturday’s third place finish in the Grand Prix gave him a score of 75.000 per cent to place behind Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida on Doktor on a score of 75.350 per cent;
