SYDNEY, May 8, 2015–Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser followed up the pair’s first victory in a year at Big Tour with a win Friday at the Sydney CDI3* Friday in the pair’s debut Grand Prix Special.
Brett and the Australian-bred 12-year-old black gelding (Weltmeyer x Dutch Courage) scored 69.57 per cent for the win.
Brett and DP Weltmieser–officially aged 12 in the Southern Hemisphere although born in 2002–took the Grand Prix Thursday in the first win in their 13th start at Big Tour that began at this competition a year ago.
John Thompson, 25 years old who is based in Australia but rides for New Zealand, rode Bates Antonello in only their second international show, for second place on 66.92 per cent.
John took over the ride on the New Zealand-bred Hanoverian gelding, now 13 years old, after Louisa Hill competed the horse in her native New Zealand and Australia before moving to Europe to ride in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. A lack of funding led to her selling the horse.
Mary Hanna and Umbro, the Australian winning pair at the World Cup Pacific League Final earlier this year, was third on 66.47 per cent after placing second in the Grand Prix.
