RADZIONKÓW, Poland, May 3, 2015–Germany’s Ellen Schulten-Baumer on Grosso’s Gentle captured the Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday in the opening leg of the 10-event World Cup Central European League.

The win with 72.800 per cent was the first for Ellen and the 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding that have competed at Grand Prix for two years.

Svetlana Kiseliova of the Ukraine on Parish placed second on 70.700 per cent with Denmark’s Martin Christensen on FBW De Vito in third on 70.225 per cent.

Ellen picked up the maximum of 20 points for the victory that she can carry with back to the Western European League when qualifying competitions start there in October for the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Final in Göteborg, Sweden next March.

Svetlana, who competes in the Central European League, gets 17 points toward results to qualify two riders from the CEL while Martin’s 15 points count for his Western European results.

The Central European League has scheduled events in eight different countries through to mid-October.

Competitions for the 2016 Final of the annual global individual championship began in Australia in March for the single Pacific League slot, even before the 2015 Final was staged in Las Vegas that saw Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin on Valegro take the title for the second straight year.

The North American League that gets to qualify two starting positions at the Final launched two weeks ago in California with a calendar of at least 11 competitions in Canada and the United States over the next 11 months.

The Western European League, highly competitive and with nine places available in the Final, does not begin until October, retaining the roots of the World Cup as a winter indoor series featuring the Musical Freestyle. Salzburg, Austria has been added to expand the 2015/2016 calendar to nine qualifiers plus the Final.
