COLORA, Maryland, Dec. 19, 2014–The death of the stallion Festrausch at the age of 20 at Cazenovia, New York last month was reported Friday by Hilltop Farm that owned the black horse.

The son of Florestan won Materiale classes in Germany and under Dr. Ulf Möller Mller, the Westfalen Festrausch placed fourth at the World Young Horse Championships in 1999.

He was bought by Hilltop Farm of Colora, Maryland in 2000 and paired with Scott Hassler for the remainder of his career. Approved by multiple breeding associations, Festrausch had what Hilltop described as “a very positive influence in North American breeding.”

He sired an approved stallion, multiple Premium mares and foals, Devon Champions, and U.S. Dressage Federation All-Breeds winners.

Festrausch moved to Cazenovia College in upstate New York in 2010.

He continued to breed and helped educate students in Cazenovia’s Equine Reproduction courses.
