SAUGERTIES, New York, Sept. 20, 2014–Canada’s Jacqueline Brooks and D Niro won the Saugerties Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday, the second straight year the pair have claimed the title to the World Cup event.
Jacqueline and the 13-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding scored 71.725 per cent and moved to the top of the World Cup North American League standings.
Michael Barisone of Long Valley, New Jersey on HF Victor placed second on 70.775 per cent and the Wellington, Florida-based Kelly Layne of Australia was third on 71.702 .920 per cent.
This was the third of 10 World Cup events–nine in the United States and one in Canada–scheduled for North America to qualify for the Final in Las Vegas April 15-19, the fourth time for the dual annual championships of dressage and jumping to be held there in a decade.
Competition for North America’s guaranteed two places–likely to be increased to three or four for the host nation–will heat up next year with four World Cup qualifiers scheduled for the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida and two in the second year of the California Dreaming circuit in Southern California.
