FRITZENS, Austria, July 5, 2014–Steffen Peters decided to push Rosamunde as a warmup for the prestigious World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany in two weeks and it worked so well Saturday that the seven-year-old mare delivered her best performance so far to win the Schindlhof CDI4* Intermediate 1.
Steffen of San Diego, California and the Rhinelander mare scored 76.026 per cent that not only was another advance on their improving results but was the seventh win in eight starts since the pair began competing internationally in March.
German Olympian Dorothee Schneider on Showtime tried too hard to make up for Friday’s second to the American pair in the Prix St. Georges and placed third on 71.316 per cent behind fellow German Karin Rehbein on Royal Princess M with 72.711 per cent. Karin retired from Grand Prix competition and this was her last small tour event.
Jo Hinemann, who coaches Steffen, said the pair needed to try to ride the test they want to do at Aachen.
They did so–a more powerful trot, canter pirouettes that were the best to date, super walk and no mistakes.
“It was the most risk ever taken with her,” Steffen said. “I knew Dorothee (Schneider) would go for it and she did, but unfortunately for her she had some mistakes.
“It’s nice to see this level of competition at the Prix St. Georges. This is fantastic.
“It’s always good before a major competition to have a good feeling. That happened in Gladstone with Legolas.
“Rosie is feeling absolutely fantastic to go into Aachen.”
But he cautioned that the horse has never seen a gigantic stadium that the Deutsche Bank Stadium has become with an expansion because of the growth of popularity of dressage AT Aachen.
“Hopefully there won’t be any surprises,” Steffen said. “My wish list is to go into Aachen like she did today.”
Akiko Yamazaki, whose Four Winds Farm owns Rosamunde, is in neighboring Germany with her daughter Miki who has been named a member of the American vaulting team for the world championships as part of the WEG in Normandy, France next month.
“You can see the excitement in her texts,” Steffen laughed… “Super Rosie, Princess Rosie, possibly Queen Rosie.
“It’s super exciting.”
