SAUMUR, France, May 2, 2014–The Carl and Charlotte show performed in Saumur Friday with Carl Hester and Dances With Wolves finishing first in the CDI3* Grand Prix while Charlotte rode his Olympic team gold medal mount Uthopia to runnerup with Carl and Nip Tuck placing third.
Carl was both the last ride, on Daces With Wolves on which the pair scored 74.340 per cent and the first into the arena on Nip Tuck that placed third on 71.460 per cent. Charlotte and Uthopia slotted in between on 72.260 per cent.
Thirty-three combinations from 13 nations started the competition with Carl and the 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Donnerschwee x Waldorf) repeating their victory from 2013, but this year with a personal best. The pair’s previous highest Grand Prix score was 73.532 per cent at Compiègne, France a year ago.
Carl began competing Dances With Wolves at Grand Prix in March 2013 and in 13 starts has notched eight victories and never finished out of the top three.
