HAGEN, Germany, April 26, 2014–Kristina Sprehe and Desperados FRH showed top form again in winning the Horses and Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix Special Saturday with their highest score in almost two years while America’s Arlene “Tuny” Page and Alina posted a personal best for the second day in a row.

The top three were the same European Championships German team combinations as in Friday’s Grand Prix–Kristina and the 13-year-old black Hanoverian stallion first on 80.980 per cent, Isabell Werth and Don Johnson FRH second on 77.824 per cent and Fabienne Lütkemeier and D’Agostino FRH third on 74.627 per cent.

The result for Kristina and the black stallion was the best since posting 81.000 per cent at Aachen, Germany in 2012 as she prepared to go to London as a member of the German team that won silver at the Olympics.

Kristina and Desperados (De Niro x Wolkenstein II) returned to Hagen after a year in which she took over the dressage operations at her family’s stud at the same time she was still at university, forcing the 27-year-old rider to end a long daily commute to her trainer, Jürgen Koschel, based next to these show grounds.

She now is helped by Monica Theodorescu, the German team coach.

Tuny Page and Alina placed fourth with a score of 71.235 per cent, easily topping their 67.458 per cent in the Special at Donaueschingen, Germany last September.

The ride by Tuny and the 16-year-old Danish Warmblood mare came a day after scoring a personal best of 70.160 per cent to place fifth in the Grand Prix.

“The mare is fit and fresh,” Tuny told dressage-news.com, “and wants to do everything.

“Today my mare got in the ring and fought for me.

“This show is absolutely the best with thousands of people and very supportive of an American rider.

“The exciting thing is there is more to come with Alina.”

Tuny of Wellington, Florida is spending two months training and competing in Europe ahead of the U.S. selection trials for the World Equestrian Games in France at the end of summer. She did not compete Alina in the intense CDI schedule in Florida’s winter circuit after returning home from last summer’s European swing.
