LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Feb. 14, 2014–The agenda has been set for an Extraordinary General Assembly of the International Equestrian Federation designed to change the rules so Princess Haya can be elected to a third term as president of the organization that governs global horse sports.
The FEI Bureau met Thursday to approve the agenda for the meeting in Lausanne April 29 to include what the FEI said would be “the extension of the term in office of the FEI President.”
The decision to stage the meeting came during last November’s General Assembly when all but a handful of the 130 member nations demanded a change in the statutes to remove the limit of two four-year terms for the president.
The special session will also consider creation of a new FEI body, the FEI Olympic Council, to liaise on a more permanent basis with members of the Olympic Family with an equestrian background.
The Bureau also decided to postpone the 2014 FEI General Assembly in Dubai to Dec.11-14 2014 so it follows an International Olympic Committee meeting a week earlier at which decisions on the Olympic program will be taken.
