FRANKFURT, Dec. 21, 2013–Beatrice Buchwald and the eight-year-old black mare Weihegold OLD won the prestigious Nürnberger Burg-Pokal for horses aged seven to nine years old at the Frankfurter Festhalle Saturday.
Beatrice, assistant trainer to German superstar Isabell Werth, and Weihegold (Don Schufro x Sandro Hit) scored 74.732 per cent for the victory in the Prix St. Georges Special competition.
German Olympian Dorothee Schneider and Derano were second on 74.000 per cent and Norway’s Isabel Bache on Riverdance third on 72.293 per cent.
Beatrice and Weihegold qualified for the Nürnberger final by winning at Isernhagen in the year-long campaign.
The mare’s first title was at the 2008 Elite Broodmare Show in Rastede. In 2009, the pair was national champion of the Oldenburg Verband and won bronze at the Bundeschampionate. The following year, they made it to the finals of the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses.
