MINSK, Belarus, Oct. 19–Russia’s Inessa Merkulova rode Mister X to victory in Saturday’s Grand Prix of the season’s final event in the World Cup Central European League (CEL), while fellow Russian Tatiana Dorofeeva on Khorovod seemed assured of finishing at the top of the league standings and give the pair a place in the Final at Lyon, France next April.
Inessa and the nine-year-old Russian-bred Trakehner gelding scored 70.021 per cent, by far the highest Grand Prix score in their third show since starting the big tour four months ago.
Russians took the top three places with Marina Aframeeva on Vosk second on 68.213 per cent and Tatiana and Khorovod third on 67.957 per cent.
Tatiana with 37 points was at the top of the CEL after five of the six World Cup qualifiers and this year the two top ranked riders will be invited to the Final instead of having to compete in a head-to-head league final.
Three of the top four ranked riders are not competing here, leaving the door open for Katsiaryna Varchenia of Belarus standng fifth and with after finishing sixth on Redford 2 could gain enough points in the Freestyle Sunday to add to her total of 23 to earn the second CEL place at the Final.
