PERL-BORG, Germany,July 19–The German Olymic team silver medalist combination of Kristina Sprehe and Desperados FRH on Friday won the Peterhof Dressage Gala Grand Prix for the freestyle while the United States’ Caroline Roffman and Sagacious HF performed the test for the first time at a CDI to place sixth. Isabell Werth and Bella Rose won the Grand Prix for the Special.
Kristins and the 12-year-old Hanoverian stallion (De Niro x Wolkenstein) scored 78.170 per cent while Austria’s Olympic pair of Victoria Max-Theurer and Augustin OLD paced second on 72.702 and Isabell Werth of Germany and Der Stern OLD were third on 70.660 per cent.
Caroline Roffman of Wellington, Florida and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding (Welt Hit x Cocktail) were scored at 67.532 per cent with a high of 70.638 per cent from Russian judge Irina Maknami and a low of 63.404 per cent from Italian judge Vincenzo Truppa.
In the Grand Prix for the Special, Isabell and Bella Rose scored 76.277 per cent for the win in only their second CDI Grand Prix.
Fellow German Olympian Nadine Capellmann and Girasole were second on 72.915 per cent and Michael Eilberg on Half Moon Delphi that he will compete on Great Britain’s team at the Nations Cup in Hickstead, England in August was third on 71.745 per cent.
Caroline and Sagacious were competing in their first senior Grand Prix after becoming the first American ever to ride in the Under-25 division at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany three weeks ago, placing second.
She was urged to stay in Europe to join the American squad at the Nations Cup CDIO3* event in Hickstead, England in two weeks.
“It was a memorable ride,” Caroline said.
The pair were awarded an 8.5 for the one-tempi changes and 8s for other movements but the final result was affected by low scores on the final centerline of piaffe and passage.
Mikala Gundersen of Denmark, based in Wellington, Florida and My Lady scored 68.043 per cent to place eighth while the USA’s Susan Dutta, also of Wellington, placed ninth on Currency DC with 66.851 per cent.
