WELLINGTON, Florida, April 13–The United States Equestrian Foundation benefit “Solid Gold!” that Robert Dover organized and was the master of ceremonies raised about $160,000 to fund dressage training and European competitions for America’s to horses and iders preparing for the World Equestrian Games in Normandy next year.

The benefit coincided with the Global Dressage Festival’s Wellington Nations Cup CDIO3* and included spirited bidding at auctions for glamorous weekends at an African safari resort, California wine country spa, an exotic Indian banquet with the finest wines provided by David Page, and a day with some of America’s top dressage stars and sitting next to judges while they perform their duties.

The item that drew the largest bid was $36,000 to spend a day with Debbie McDonald, the rider of the now-retired Brentina on whom she won the World Cup title, Olympic and World Equestrian Games medals and a special place in the hearts of dressage fans around the world  for the partnership of a pint-sized rider and a full-sized mare.

A highlight of the night at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center’s Stadum complex was a pas de dieux of mirror-images of the Grand Prix Special of Robert Dover and Tina Konyot, two Olympians who rode to a compilation of Olympic music created and donated by Marlene Whitaker.
