With 500 days to go to the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, 3,000 volunteers are being sought from around the globe to join the newly named mascot, Norman, for the championships of the seven international disciplines from Aug. 24 to Sept. 7, 2014.
Opening ceremony for the FEI Alltech WEG is scheduled for Caen’s d’Ornano Stadium on Saturday night, Aug. 23 with competition starting on Monday, Aug. 25 with the dressage team competition, reining and para-dressage.
The world championships of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, jumping, reining and vaulting as well as para-dressage are held once every four years and were inaugurated in 1990
The organizing committee announced Monday volunteers will be able to sign up on www.alltechfeiwegnormandy2014.com. Candidates must be 18 years or older, with 1,000 volunteers to be trained to help out at the test events in 2013 with another further 1,500 to 2,000 to join their ranks in 2014.
Successful candidates will undergo an in-depth information and training course, taking a leaf from the success of the Olympic Games in London whose success was credited to a large extent to the volunteers
“They hold the key to making a successful, welcoming and friendly major international event,” said Laurent Beauvais, president of the Normandie 2014 Organizing Committee. “Our Normandie 2014 ‘Games Makers’ will be the very essence of the event.”
