THERMAL, California, Nov. 18–Steffen Peters rode Legolas to a score of 79.100 per cent in a national Grand Prix before a single judge at the Dressage Getaway, possibly the last CDN for the pair now nearing their first anniversary.
Legolas, a 10-year-old Westfalen gelding, has become the main Grand Prix mount for Steffen of San Diego, California since the retirement of Ravel after the Olympics in London this summer.
Steffen said the ride before judge Natalie Lamping was “his best test so far,” including the U.S. Championship that the pair won earlier this year. “There were no mistakes and the changes were much improved,” he said.
Although the pair competed at four CDIs last winter, he said: “This was our last college game–he feels ready for the NFL starting in Florida at the World Dressage Masters.”
Steffen and Legolas (Laomedan x Furstin x Florestan II) plan to compete at both CDI5* events in Florida, one on the way to Europe to ride at the Holiday & Horses show at Hagen, Germany which is organized by Ullrich Kasselmann who trained the horse, and at Wiesbaden and Aachen.
