MELBOURNE, Australia, Nov. 17–Heath Ryan and the 16-year-old stallion Regardez Moi made it two in a row when the pair won the Equitana World Cup freestyle Saturday night with a ground jury that was divided on the top placings.
Heath and the Oldenburg stallion (Rubinstein x Chlotilde x Consul) scored 71.750 per cent to give the combination that has campaigned on both sides of the Pacific for almost seven years a slight edge over Australia’s Olympic partnership of Mary Hanna and Sancette who were second on 71.275 per cent, the same order of finish as the Grand Prix. Maree Tomkinson and Diamantina 4 placed third in the freestyle on 69.950 per cent.
Great Britain’s Stephen Clarke, president of the ground jury as he was in this summer’s Olympics, was the only judge to put Heath on top. Three judges placed him second and another in third place.
Australian judge Jane Ventura gave the No. 1 spot to Mary and Sancette while Australia’s Susie Hoevenaars and New Zealand’s Jan Bird put Maree and Diamantina in the lead. France’s Kathy Amos-Jacob made David Shoobridge and 00 Seven her choice as the winner. He finished fourth.
Heath and Regardez Moi began competing at Grand Prix in 2007 and in 2009 represented Australia at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas.
This was the fifth and last of the Pacific League World Cup qualifying events before a sinlge representative from the region is determined by a head-to-head league final next month.
The World Cup Final will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, next April.
