A memorial service for Patsy Albers will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 2320 Grubb Road, Wilmington Delaware, at 4 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 17, the family said Sunday. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the U.S. Dressage Federation Region 1 – Young Riders.
Patsy Albers, one of the best known figures at dressage competitions throughout the United States as a manager, young rider official and volunteer, died suddenly at her home in Chesapeake City, Maryland, on Friday. She was 76 years old.
Patsy was the inaugural U.S. Dressage Federation Volunteer of the Year in 2004 and in 2010 an anonymous patron created “The Albers Award” to honor the the longtime USDF Region 1 Young Rider Chef d’Equipe.
Linda Zang, FEI 5* judge who lives in Annapolis, Maryland, said: “What a loss. What Patsy did for dressage in this country was endless.”
Elisabeth Williams, FEI and USEF steward, said that Patsy was “the most loyal friend one could ever have and she never believed ill of anyone in the world.”
Lori Kaminski, president and CEO of Dressage at Devon, a longtime premier CDI on Main Line Philadelphia, described her as “the lifeblood of Devon.”
Patsy was the FEI Director at the Devon show last month.
Cause of death was not determined.
Patsy is survived by two daughters and two sons and her husband, Robert.
