WROCLAW, Poland, Sept. 16–Switzerland’s Marcela Krinke Susmeij and Smeyers Molberg captured the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday for their second World Cup victory in the 2012/13 season.
Marcela and the 11-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Michellino x Athene x Rambo) won with a personal best score of 73.750 per cent as did the runnerup, Canada’s Pia Fortmuller on Orion with 73.375 per cent. Katarzyna Milczarek of Poland on Florenca B was third on 72.350 per cent.
The Swiss pair won the Grand Prix Saturday with a score of 70.532 per cent, with Katarzyna Milczarek and Ekwador second on 70.277 per cent and Pia and Orion third on 68.681 per cent.
Marcela and Molberg won the Lipica World Cup event three months ago with a score of 73.550 per cent that was their best until Sunday.
For Pia and Orion this was the first time the pair have broken the 70 per cent barrier.
Pia began competing the 16-year-old KWPN gelding (Jazz x Havanna x Consul) two years ago in Europe.
Canada’s Leslie Reid was the previous rider and their partnership included competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Katarzyna and Ekwador won the Grand Prix Special on a score of 70.644 per cent with Australia’s Hayley Beresford on Jaybee Alabaster second on 67.689 per cent and the Netherlands’ Marlies van Baalen and BMC Everything is Possible third on 67.644 per cent.
