HAGEN, Germany, April 25–Ingred Klimke rode the black stallion Dresden Mann to victory in the Prix St. Georges Wednesday to kick off the Horses & Dreams meets Great Britain CDI4* in which two of three British combinations likely to be on the London Olympic team are scheduled to compete along with 16 nations.
The German rider and the eight-year-old Westfalen son of Dresemann, the three-year-old Budeschampion in 2002, scored 73.684 per cent with compatriot Charlott-Maria Schürmann on Donna Jackson second on 73.026 per cent and Sweden’s Patrik Kittel and Uno Donna Unique third on 72.061 per cent.
U.S. combinations Shawna Harding and Rigo with 68.640 per cent and Jennifer Hoffman and Rubinio 55 with 68.158 per cent finished 10th and 11th, respectively.
Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris, her 2010 World Equestrian Games and 2009 and 2011 European Championships multimedal winner, and the young superstar combination of Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro, both expected to be on the British Olympi team along wth Carl Hester and Uthopia, are scheduled to compete in the Grand Prix.
So, too, is Totilas who will be marking 11 months of CDI competition ridden by Germany’s Matthias Alexander Rath in a squad that also includes their new stars of Kristina Sprehe and Desperadoes FRH.
Sweden, Australia, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Ireland and the United States all have multiple riders at Hagen, the the first major outdoor international event of the year that has added importance with the Olympic Games in London just three months away.
