ADDINGTON, England, April 7–Imke Schellekens-Bartels and Hunter Douglas Toots came within a fraction of breaking the 80 per cent level Saturday in their first international Grand Prix Freestyle scoring 79.701 per cent for the victory at Addington Manor CDI3*.

And Spain’s Morgan Barbançon Mestres turned in a score 78.150 per cent on Painted Black that was reminiscent of her coach and previous rider of the 15-year-old KWPN gelding (Gribaldi x Litchy x Ferro), Anky van Grunsven. This was Morgan’s second senior CDI, her first just three months ago after completing successin the Under-25 division.

Great Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer on Andretti H, the horse that is a backup to Mistral Hojris, finished on third on 76.675 per cent.

The victories in the Grand Prix Friday and the Freestyle Saturday for Imke and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding (Jazz x Milleke x Havidoff) will be heartening for The Netherlands approaching this summer’s Olympics. Until now, Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival were Holland’s leading combination by far after Totilas, ridden to No. 1 in the world by Edward Gal, was sold to Germany.
