GÖTEBORG, Sweden, Feb. 24– Patrik Kittel rode Toy Story, owned by the parents of his Australian wife, to victory Friday in the Grand Prix before a home crowd in the last of the nine World Cup Western European League events ahead of the Final in two months.
The score of 75.021 per cent was a personal best for the pair who could vault to the top of the WEL standings if they win Saturday in the Freestyle which is the event for which points can be earned.
The top three all scored above the 70 per cent mark, with Denmark’s Lone Jorgenson and FBW De Vito second on 72.234 per cent and Great Britain’s Richard Davison on Hiscox Artemis third on 70.298 per cent.
Patrik has already qualified Toy Story, as well as Silvano, for the World Cup Final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, in April.
The 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding (Come Back II x Cessna x Concorde) is owned by Carol and Andrew Oatley.
Patrik is fourth on the WEL rankings coming into this event. Aboard Watermill Scandic HBC, he won individual bronze at the European Championships last August.
Fellow Swede Tine Vilhelmsson-Silfvén is ranked fifth in the WEL. She is competing in Florida for the winter.
